9117 Fourth Day of Creation
"And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give
light on the earth"; and it was so. Then God made two great lights: the greater
light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars
also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth
and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the
darkness. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and morning were the
fourth day." Genesis 1:15-19
The magnificence of Divine Creation is captured in this roundel, which narrates The Fourth Day of Creation. The newly formed Earth is depicted with lush trees, fields of grass and rolling waves of the sea, above which the fiery Sun appears with the luminescent Moon, the radiant stars and other constellations arranged to be for signs, for seasons, for days and years. As the morning sun shines through the deep rich colors of the glass, one is reminded of God's masterful work and power. Ernest W. Lakeman designed The Fourth Day of Creation for the North Side of the Cathedral narthex. Mrs. E.C. Ludlow gave the window in memory of Gabirel Ludlow. The Fourth Day of Creation is the third reproduction Glassmasters has created for the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.
