9056 Flight into Egypt

Flight Into Egypt, is based on a Biblical passage from the Book of Matthew when an angel instructed Joseph to “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt …”. The original Flight Into Egypt was commissioned from Nicola D’Ascenzo (1871-1954) for the New York City cathedral, St. John the Divine, when it was built in 1892. On December 18, 2001, a devastating fire threatened the cathedral and destroyed the gift shop.
