8166 The Good Shepherd

Washington National Cathedral, Washington, D.C.

4 3/4" x 11"

The stained glass windows of Washington National Cathedral were created over decades and exhibit a wide variety of styles expressing the themes and events of the Bible and the experiences and achievements of the faithful throughout history. This traditional depiction of Christ as the Good Shepherd is a reproduction of a window created by Henry Lee Willet Studios of Philadelphia and installed in the parclose stairway of the Cathedral in 1948. Its inscription is taken from the tenth chapter of the Gospel according to St. John:

"I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep."
