The Cardinal (Richmondena Cardinalis or Cardinalis Cardinalis) is popular all across the USA and used as the state bird in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia. The traits that make the Cardinal popular is the brilliant color fo the male and the human traits of choosing a mate, caring for their young, coping with predators, surviving adverse weather and shortages of food to appear again each Spring.

The Hautman Brothers find Spring to be their favorite season. All three of the Hautman brothers have received numerous honors and awards, and have dominated many state and national duck stamp competitions. James, Robert and Joseph have seen their art featured in over 40 state and federal stamps.
